Starwood Launches 50 Percent Off Global Summer Sale

Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced a summer sale. In a week-long wave of record-breaking discounts across the globe, Starwood is reducing rates by as much as 50 percent at nearly 600 participating hotels and resorts.

Among the properties taking part in Starwood’s Summer Sale in the United States are Sheraton Kauai, with rates from $189 per night; W Times Square, with rates from $199 per night; and Sheraton Boston Hotel, with rates from $139 per night. Travelers to Asia Pacific will enjoy deep discounts at properties including Le Méridien Bangalore, with rates from $107; W Hong Kong, with rates from $219; and Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo, with rates from $120. And those headed to Mexico will find enticing deals at Le Méridien Cancun Resort & Spa, with rates from $92; and St. Regis Punta Mita, offering rates from $239.

Travelers must book by July 20 to save on stays from July 16 through Oct. 12, 2009.

Romance in Wine Country

Several hotels in Sonoma County, Calif., are offering romance packages in the heart of wine country. Among them:

A Winter Romance Getaway is available from Cypress House (707-833-1322, www.winecountryharmony.com) in Valley of the Moon through Feb. 28. Nightly rates for the three-bedroom, two-bath home, which sleeps up to six people, are $385 with two-night minimum and $350 for three to five. A six-night stay is $1,900. Rates are inclusive of all taxes and fees.

The Sheraton Sonoma County-Petaluma (707-283-2900, www.sheraton.com/sonomaoffers) is offering a Valentine’s Romance package that includes breakfast for two (room service or in Tolay), champagne and strawberries delivered to the room, and a 4 p.m. checkout. Nightly package room rates start at $139. At the Vintner’s Inn, a two-night My Sparkling Valentine package is valid Feb. 13-14 and includes a fireplace room overlooking the winter gardens, a bottle of sparkling wine and six chocolate-covered strawberries.

Landmark Vineyards (707-833-0053, www.landmarkwine.com) is offering a two-night Romance Among the Vines package with cottage accommodations, dinner for two a guided hike in Sugarloaf State Park with a picnic lunch, an in-room couple’s massage, a private tour of the estate vineyard, and VIP wine tasting at area wineries via a chauffeured 1950s Cadillac convertible. The package is priced at $2,500.

At Dawn Ranch (707-869-0656, www.dawnranch.com), couples who book two nights receive a third night free, plus a three-course dinner with sparkling wine at the Roadhouse Restaurant Feb. 13 or 14 for an additional $99 for two.

Safari West Wildlife Preserve and African Tent Camp (800-616-2695, www.safariwest.com) is offering a Wild Jungle Love Romantic Safari package that includes a “sex safari” on Feb. 14. The safari features a wine and chocolate reception followed by a safari in an open-air vehicle among some of the world’s most exotic creatures. Participants will learn about the mating habits of African mammals and birds including bongos, giraffes, gazelles, zebras, warthogs and cheetahs. The tour ends with a party. Couples can also book the tour without lodging for $150 per person.

A romance package at the Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa (707-545-8530, www.flamingohotel.com) on Feb. 14 includes couple’s spa treatments, a special gift, dinner for two at the Terrace Grille, two cocktails in the lounge or a bottle of sparkling wine in the room, continental breakfast in the Terrace Grille or via room service, and passes to the Montecito Heights Health Club. The package is priced from $499.

The Fountain Grove Inn and Equus Restaurant (800-222-6101, www.fountaingroveinn.com) is offering a Will You Be Mine package on Valentine’s Day weekend, featuring complimentary tasting vouchers to local wineries, sparkling wine and chocolates upon arrival, a three-course dinner in Equus Restaurant for two, a full breakfast buffet for two, and late checkout. The nightly package room rate is $335, including tax and gratuities.

The Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel and Spa (707-284-1234, www.vineyardcreek.hyatt.com) is offering Sweethearts Indulgence packages for stays in February and March. The 60-Minute Romance package is priced from $250 per couple, per night, and includes an herbal neck wrap accompanied by a flute of sparkling wine and a Heart’s Desire truffle, and a 50-minute couple’s massage with rose body butter and chocolate-scented aromatherapy oil. The 90-Minute Romance package starts at $300 and includes the same, plus a 20-minute lavender and rose tub soak for two.
